THE TRAVELLING CAT CHRONICLES (AN HONEST BOOK REVIEW)

I know you've seen The Travelling Cat Chronicles being read and bawled over. The question is, did I, a reader who cries at sad books, have the same reading experience?

Synopsis

This book follows the journey of Nana, a cat adopted by Satoru. Satoru works hard to find a new home for Nana as he can no longer keep him. Will his hard work pay off or will Nana be left to the streets once more?

Through Nana we get to experience the perspectives of a cat, how they view their owners, how they view life.

How cute is this cat?

Thoughts I looked forward to reading this because booktokers who usually don't cry easily, cried because of this book. So of course, I was sold. This book felt cosy to read. It had like fuzzy, warm, safe vibes. Defo a good autumn or winter read. However, I was disappointed to find that it didn't make me cry! There was a point where I teared up (explained in the spoilers section). But I didn't bawl like other readers did.

Seeing life and the world from Nanas perspective was vey eye opening because it showed animals have feelings too, just like us. This book taught me that the true selfless beings are those who are kind to animals, because animals cant give you anything in return.

SPOILERS AHEAD!

I teared up during Satoru and Nanas last meeting before Satoru died of cancer. That was heart-breaking. Nanas love and loyalty for his owner was so heart-warming. The fact that he was so persistent to stay with him during his last days and made that happen no matter what.

However, 90% of the book felt irrelevant to me. I didn't get why the whole book needed to be about Satorus past friendships? Only 1%, which was the last chapter, seemed relevant.

Nonetheless, if you want to read a character and journey driven book with minimal plot, definitely pick this book up!
